What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls the function of virtually every cell, tissue, and organ of your body.  Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of your body. While your brain is protected by your skull, your spinal cord is much more vulnerable to problems. When one or more of your vertebrae lose their normal position, they can pinch nerves in your spinal cord which disrupts the function of the tissue or organs that nerves controls.  This is called a Vertebral Subluxation.

How do you correct my spine?

man_adj1_1.jpgAs a doctor of Chiropractic, we are trained to correct nerve interference through correction of spinal "misalignments" without drugs or surgery.  Through the use of gentle, specific, and painless procedures known as adjustments, the natural abilities of your body are activated to provide relief of pain and a gradual return to optimum health.

What exactly is an adjustment?

A chiropractic adjustment is the art of using a force in a precise direction applied to a joint that is fixated or not moving properly.  This helps the bones gradually return to a more normal position.  The purpose of this safe and natural procedure is improved spinal function, nervous system function, and overall improved health.

There are hundreds of ways to adjust the spine.  Usually the doctor's hands deliver a brief and highly accurate thrust.  Some adjusting methods are quick whereas others provide a slow and constant pressure.

After years of training and clinical experience, Dr. Sabeti has become highly skilled in the delivery of a variety of adjusting techniques.

Is this going to hurt?

No. Most spinal adjustments are not painful at all.  As a matter of fact, patients feel better fairly quickly and think they are cured, but this is only a temporary fix. In most cases weekly treatments are needed to train the musucles to hold the bones back into their correct places.

What can chiropractic care help with?

Chiropractic care is used most frequently to relieve pain without taking drugs or having surgery.  Dr. Fara Sabeti's specialty is to relieve neck and shoulder pain, chest pain, Spinal Curvatures, Whiplash Injuries, Disc problems, Fibromyalgia, Pre-Menstrual Syndrome, Bed Wetting, Digestive Problems, Painful Joints, Migraine Headaches, Sciatica, Numbness/ Tingling, Scoliosis, TMJ (Jaw Pain), Pinched Nerves, Arthritis/ Bursitis, Allergies, Asthma, Chronic Colds/ Flu, upper and lower extremity injuries, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (wrist), elbow, leg, foot, and knee pain, Plantar Fasciitis, Shin Spur, and numerous sports injuries.

What kind of equipment or facilities do you have in your office? traction1_1.JPG

In our clinic we have many unique machines and equipment designed to promote healing in many different kind of injuries.  We have a machine called, "Traction".  It is used for the rehabilitation program to rebuild and strengthen the muscles and ligaments of the neck, and to increase the range of motion and flexibility of the neck.

We also uman_bed.f_1.JPGse a "Rolling Table" to stretch your full spine and reduce muscle tension and muscle spasm, and we use deep tissue massage to the paraspinal muscles in your neck, mid back, low back, and hip.

patients_chairs_1.jpgMotion is essential for a strong, pain-free spine.  We have our patients use the "Wobble Chair" which produces loading and unloading cycles for spinal rehabilitation and to prepare the spine to be manipulated and/or adjusted.

Karen_web.JPGWe use Electro Muscle Stimulation, TENS Unit, Ultrasound, and Interferential to repair the collagen fiber of the muscle and reorganize the muscle and ligaments.  Ice is used to reduce the inflammation and swelling of the muscles.  Heat is used to reduce the muscle tension and muscle spasm.  Most of the time using heat is for chronic patients.

Will I need to take X-Rays?

X-Rays are usually necessary for a variety of reasons, especially after an accident or considerable trauma to the body.  One reason for the X-Ray is so that the doctor can get a "real" view as to the condition of your spine as compared to just manipulating or feeling the spine and doing tests in the office. After an accident, X-Rays can be used in court as "proof" of the injury you sustained.

Of course, if you are pregnant or think you are, you will never be advised to take ANY X-Rays. We ask the patients to take X-Rays only if they are necessary, and we will instruct you where and when to go to get them done at the end of your first examination.

What is Rehabilitation and Nutrition Care?

At Better Health & Wellness Center we provide the best equipment for our patients in order to assist them in stretching and strengthening the muscules and ligaments in the body.

Description of facilitated energetic therapeutic exercises:  The control lateral agonist/antagonist isometric maneuver is performed with the patient in a supine position with the arms extended above the head. To exercise the upper extremity, the arms are crossed at the forearm with the elbow slightly flexed. The palms face up. The patient then alternates this pushing procedure by changing the superior and inferior arm with each push.

This same procedure is used for the lower extremity. The patient is in a supine position with active patient participation which ispysical_therapy_1.JPG required in our work conditioning program. Over time and with treatment, accompanied by rehabilitation, exercising patients become reconditioned, strengthened, and ready to return to regular daily activities.

At Better Health & Wellness Center we provide Naturalpathy techniques customized to each  individual person with nutritional supplements and a drug-free preventative approach to good health, which makes it appropriate for all ages from infants to senior citizens.

How long will I need Chiropractic care?

This all depends on the condition of your spine and your nervous system when you come in to see us.  Spinal problems that have been neglected for long periods of time may require ongoing supportive care for optimal health.  The longer you've neglected your spinal problems, the longer it will take to correct them.  Newer injuries, depending on their severity, may require less time.  The body needs time to fully heal any injury.

In most cases, when a spinal bone is out of alignment, weekly treatments are needed to train the muscles to hold the bones back into their correct places. An example would be when braces are put onto teeth.  The teeth are moved slowly over time so that they are retrained to stay in the new, correct position.  This is also true of your spine.

A continuing schedule of Chiropractic check-ups is always advised as they can help detect, correct, and maintain spinal and nervous system function before it becomes a major health problem.

I just had my first Chiropractic treatment and adjustment, and the next day I woke up feeling a bit more sore than before I had my adjustment.  Why?  Is it normal?

Yes, this is quite normal.  Most Chiropractors will instruct their new patients after their first adjustment exactly what they should expect for the first two weeks.  Usually, patients are instructed to ice their injured area the same day after their first adjustment.

The reason for the soreness in the adjusted area is that the bone/bones out of alignment are now being re-adjusted back into the correct position, and the muscles around the area are also being moved.  The muscles are being retrained to hold the bone in the new correct position.  This can sometimes cause some temporary minor soreness in the injured are.
