Reflexology

Reflexology is the study, science, and art of using specific touch techniques on reflex maps, resembling a shape of the human body, that are believed to exist on the feet, hands, and outer ears.

There are three main theories about reflexology:  the zone theory, the eastern theory, and the western theory.  All three theories have one them in common: blockage.  Blockage is the accumulation of irritating chemicals around an area.  There could be blockage or congestion along a zone, along a meridian, or along nerve endings.  In all three cases, when finger or thumb pressure is applied to a blocked area, tenderness can result.  This tenderness can indicate an imbalance elsewhere in the body.  Reflexology breaks down the blockage around the zone, meridian, or nerve endings, which helps to increase bio-electric flow through the nerve to the stressed part of the body.  The tenderness decreases as the reflexologist works on the ears, hands, or feet.

Reflexology Foot MappingThe human body is an interrelated system made of many parts and organs.  Any one of us may experience problems with any of these parts.  A person may have prostate trouble, heart disease, an overactive thyroid gland, kidney stones, liver trouble, or any other health problem.  Each organ or part of the body is represented on the hands, feet, and ears.  By working on the specific points of the ears, hands, and feet, a reflexologist can stimulate the target area and help with these problems.

Reflexology is not only for people who have a disease or illness.  Reflexology can be very beneficial for everyone.  In addition to the feeling of relaxation and rejuvenation it provides, it can help improve the health of organs throughout the body, relieve pain, improve circulation, increase the immune function, assist in weight loss, reflect a better skin tone, and even detoxify the body.   An overall balance is the ultimate benefit of reflexology.
